Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “India glacier disaster: Spotlight on Himalayan infrastructure projects” – below is their description.
Environmentalists are questioning the viability of large infrastructure projects in the Himalayan mountains after part of a glacier collapsed onto a hydroelectric dam in northern India on February 7.
At least 58 people are dead and nearly 150 missing in the Rishiganga valley – most were working on hydroelectric power plants.
Activists say further development, coupled with climate change, could be a recipe for more disasters.
Al Jazeera’s Elizabeth Puranam reports from Uttarakhand state, India.
