Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “India celebrates one billion COVID vaccine doses with song, film” – below is their description.
By spreading its health workers across some of the remotest parts of the country, India has now given at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine to three-quarters of its 1.38 billion population.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited a New Delhi hospital to celebrate the billionth dose. The government wants the entire population immunised by the end of the year.
India has also started exporting vaccines again as production is ramped up.
But in parts of Europe, the reluctance to get inoculated is prompting a surge in infections.
Al Jazeera’s Bernard Smith reports.
