The UK and EU have agreed a Brexit deal after hours of delays in the final stage of negotiations.
Ursula von der Leyen said both sides had “finally found an agreement after a long and winding road”.
It is a good deal that is fair and balanced and responsible for both sides, she said.
Mrs von der Leyen continued: “I know this is difficult day for some … parting is such sweet sorrow.
“But to use a line from TS Elliot, what we call the beginning is often the end, and to make an end is to make a beginning.”
