Illhan Omar gets choked up recalling incidents of Islamophobia she’s faced since entering Congress

Global News published this video item, entitled “Illhan Omar gets choked up recalling incidents of Islamophobia she’s faced since entering Congress” – below is their description.

On Tuesday, United States Rep. Illhan Omar alongside Reps. Tlaib, and Carson, held a press conference Tuesday denouncing Islamophobia following comments made by Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert (R).

Omar outlined incidents of Islamophobic behaviour she has faced since entering Congress, including a fellow member joking on her first day that her hijab could be used to hide C4 explosives.

“On my first day as I got sworn in. My colleague, my then colleague, Stephen King claimed another member said of my hijab that there might be four pounds of C-4 under it that would wipe out half of Congress,” Omar told reporters in Washington Tuesday.

During the briefing she played a threatening voicemail she received by an unknown caller, threatening that she wouldn’t live much longer.

Boebert – an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump – has previously referred to Omar as a member of a “jihad squad” and said it would be safe to ride with her in a Capitol elevator – if she was not wearing a backpack.
