‘I will solve problems of Mindanao. If I cannot, I will resign’ – Duterte on martial law declaration

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte vowed to fight against armed forces like alleged Islamic State-linked ‘Maute Group’ at Manila International Airport on Wednesday.
Duterte declared martial law for 60 days on Tuesday on the island of Mindanao and the nearby island provinces of Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi after clashes between the army and militants with alleged links to Islamic State in Marawi.
Five army soldiers and two police officers have so far been killed, and 31 soldiers were wounded in the ongoing sporadic fighting. 13 Maute members have also been killed.
