Vice-chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt was forced to finish a speech about the Australian National University’s strategic plan today with chants bellowing through the walls.

“ANU, shame on you!” a crowd of hundreds of students shouted, calling out ANU’s failure to improve safety after a 2017 Human Rights Commission report found nearly 40% of students had been sexually harassed in a 12-month period.

Professor Schmidt says he understands their anger, and admitted not enough progress has been made.
