Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Hun Sen, Cambodian leader for 37 years, backs son to succeed him” – below is their description.
The World’s longest serving Prime Minister appears to be making preparations to hand over power.
Hun Sen has been at the head of the Cambodian government for more than three decades. He recently announced he would step down in 2028.
Hun Sen has backed his eldest son Hun Manet, who is the commander of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and joint chief of staff, to succeed him, paving the way for a political dynasty.
Politically, there are very few challenges for Hun Manet to overcome.
Since his father banned the main opposition party in 2017, few alternatives have emerged.
Al Jazeera’s Tony Cheng reports from the capital Phnom Penh.
