An unprecedented locust incursion is ravaging the northwest of India, worsened by the Coronavirus measures that delayed response on the ground.
Locusts are a well known menace in the states of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh, traveling from the middle east into Pakistan and India every year.
But with climate change altering weather patterns across the globe, locust breeding conditions have changed, leading to bigger and more unpredictable incursions that find communities unprepared.
A single medium size locust swarm can contain 40 million insects, which can consume as much food in one day as 35,000 people.
