At least one firefighter died, and several others were hospitalized after a massive fire broke out in a historical building in St. Petersburg on Monday.

According to local media, after several hours the fire spread to a nearby residential building. Residents have been safely evacuated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The historic building that caught fire was constructed in the 19th century as a factory but recently was used as a business centre.
