HRH Duchess of Cambridge Admitted to Hospital “In Early Stages of Labour”

St Mary’s Hospital, London

Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge has been admitted to hospital “in the early stages of labour” according to a statement from Kensington Palace.

Kate was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London on Monday morning. The Duchess travelled by car from Kensington Palace to the Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital with The Duke of Cambridge.

The wife of the second in line to the throne of the British Empire, Kate is already a future Queen. She will become the mother of the future King or Queen after the Succession to the Crown Act 2013 removed the barriers to a girl succeeding to the British throne ahead of any brothers.

Landmarks around the world are poised to light up blue or pink depending on whether the Royal baby is a boy or a girl.

The British Empire was the dominions, colonies, protectorates, mandates, and other territories ruled or administered by the United Kingdom and its predecessor states. It began with the overseas possessions and trading posts established by England between the late 16th and early 18th centuries.

Fourteen overseas territories remain under British sovereignty.

After independence, many former British colonies joined the Commonwealth of Nations, a free association of independent states. The United Kingdom is now one of 16 Commonwealth nations, that share a monarch, currently Queen Elizabeth II.
