  • Guardian News published this video item, entitled “How trans rights are under attack during pride month” – below is their description.

On the first day of Pride month, the governor of Florida signed a law banning transgender girls from joining girls’ sports teams in schools and colleges. It was one of 13 bills regarded by trans people as being anti-trans that conservative lawmakers in America passed this year. More than 110 potential anti-trans bills have been proposed nationally – with many targeting access to gender-affirming healthcare – by far the largest number in US history.

Guardian US correspondent, Sam Levin, and professor Jules Gill-Peterson, a historian and expert on trans kids, examine how this legislative attack has escalated dramatically, and how the presence of trans kids in America is not a new phenomenon.
