The Telegraph published this video item, entitled “How police will respond to people breaking ‘rule of six’, according to Chair of NPCC” – below is their description.
The “rule of six” mentioned in this story, is the law in England which says no more than six people may gather indoors or outdoors, from September 14 2020. The law was brought in hastily in an effort to curb what looks like a “second wave” of Covid-19 cases in the UK, which is seeing a rise in the number of individuals testing positive for the virus, in keeping with several other European countries, in the first half of September.
Similar rules are in place in Scotland, albeit with a difference, insofar as children under 12 do not count towards the six North of the Border.
The Chair of the National Police Chiefs’ Council has said that police officers will respond to calls from the public regarding individuals breaking the ‘rule of six’. Martin Hewitt said that issuing fines or arresting individuals is a last resort, and all officers will adopt the approach of the four Es; Engage, Explain, Encourage, Enforce.
