DW News published this video item, entitled “How a Senegal lab may be Africa’s pandemic game changer | COVID-19 Special” – below is their description.
For months vaccines have been landing in airports around Africa. Astra Zeneca, Sinopharm, Sinovac
and BioNTech-Pfizer. But Africa is at the back of the line, and it’s not nearly enough. Less than 3% of Africans have been vaccinated. So far, every dose has been made outside the continent. But that could that be about to change. A vaccine factory in Senegal could be a game changer in Africa’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic. In Dakar, the Pasteur Institute is preparing to produce a COVID-19 vaccine. It would be a first in Africa. Production is set to start in 2022, and not a moment too soon.
