The U.S. House on Wednesday passed legislation that would establish a commission to investigate the Jan. 6 Capitol riots, despite opposition from Republican leadership by a vote of 252-175.

Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell said earlier Wednesday that he opposes the Democrats’ plan for a bipartisan commission to investigate the Jan. 6 attack, casting doubt about whether Congress can come to an agreement on an independent probe of the insurrection.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has vowed to bring the commission legislation to the Senate.
