Speaking to Trevor Phillips on Sunday, Priti Patel said the measure was under consideration in the wake of the killing of Conservative MP Sir David Amess.

Sir David Anthony Andrew Amess MP was a British politician who served as Member of Parliament for Southend West from 1997 until his killing in 2021. He previously served as MP for Basildon from 1983 to 1997. He was a member of the Conservative Party. He was born and grew up in Essex.

On October 15 2021, Amess was fatally stabbed at a constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea in Essex, UK. A 25 year old suspect was detained at the scene.
