Hillary Clinton attended the press conference at a Berlin hotel for the screening of new documentary-series ‘Hillary,’ directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Nanette Burstein. The proceedings were part of the 70th annual Berlinale film festival, taking place between February 20 and March 1.
The former US secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential candidate gave remarks about how the film portrayed her life, and fielded questions about the possible extradition of Julian Assange and her opinion about current US president, Donald Trump.
Speaking about alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election, Clinton said, “I don’t think Vladimir Putin misunderstood me. I think he knew exactly who I was and what I would do to stand up for freedom and democracy and to create a strong relationship among Western democracies.”
“So when he ordered his intelligence service to go after me and say anything negative they could possible say – and we have intercepts of quotes from the generals to their operatives in the intelligence agencies to do just that – it wasn’t because he was fooled, or didn’t understand me. It was because he wanted to defeat me,” she added.
