For Generation Z #travelers , it has become a habit to seek a travel guide, get holiday inspiration and document every single experience on social media. It seems that social media and travel are almost inseparable now. However, some people believe that social media is ruining the beauty of travel. The traveler’s expectations may not match reality, with many photographs edited to look better than they actually are. And sometimes people find that they spend more time sharing their vacation on social media than actually enjoying it.

In this episode of “What’s the talk”, we invite six young people from different countries and regions to share their travel experiences through rounds of debate in the #metaverse to discuss whether social media makes travel better or worse. Kate Kaligaeva, a student from Belarus, shared her views on why she considers social media to be a traveler’s friend from three perspectives. #whatsthetalk

In This Story: metaverse

A metaverse is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection.

In futurism and science fiction, the term is often described as a hypothetical iteration of the Internet as a single, universal virtual world that is facilitated by the use of virtual and augmented reality headsets.

The metaverse is something which many in the early 2020s are actively engaged in developing: an entirely online, virtual and alternative reality, in which people will be able to conduct many forms of business and social interaction – virtually.

The movement towards a metaverse gathered significant pace and attention when Facebook’s parent company rebranded itself to “meta” in 2021.
