ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “High speed chase that ended with teen’s death should have been abandoned, inquest hears | ABC News” – below is their description.

Police involved in the pursuit of a teen who died after flipping a stolen car on the Gold Coast should have called off the chase, an inquest has heard.

Logan Dreier, 18, died after crashing a stolen ute at Southport on August 9, 2019.

The inquest at the Southport Courthouse will examine the police response in the lead-up to Dreier’s death and the decision to give chase.

The teen was part of a group that sped off in a stolen vehicle after a break-and-enter on the northern Gold Coast.

Having abandoned the first vehicle, Mr Dreier got behind the wheel of a ute that was stolen from the car park of an Oxenford theme park a short time earlier.

For about 30 minutes, officers pursued the ute along the M1, where it reached at speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour, before Dreier lost control at Southport, the inquest heard.
