Tourism and retail are two big contributors to Hong Kong’s economy, but they were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic and months of often-violent protests. The economy, which is already in recession, suffered its worst contraction on record in the first three months of the year, and its unemployment rate rose to the highest in more than a decade in the February-April period.
