Maxwell Johnson, from the Heiltsuk Nation, signed what he said was a “momentous” settlement agreement alongside his granddaughter, Tori-Anne, on Wednesday. The Vancouver Police Board formally admitted officers discriminated against Johnson and his granddaughter in 2019 based on their Indigenous identities when they were handcuffed outside a bank.
