(AP) Heavy rainfall flooded streets in the city of Catania in Sicily on Tuesday.

The owner of a local restaurant, Simona Ursino, filmed rainwater flooding the street’s around Catania’s main square.

Mayor of Catania, Salvo Pugliese ordered all shops selling non-essential goods to be closed until midnight local time (2200GMT).

He urged residents to stay indoors for safety reasons, given the many requests for help reaching local authorities.

At least 2 people died due to the floods, local media reports.
