Floods caused by heavy rain disrupted traffic and inundated major highways in several cities across northern India on Friday.
In Gurugram, a satellite city of New Delhi, authorities have ordered schools closed and urged residents to work from home due to continual flooding caused by heavy rainfall.
This month, authorities in the tech hub of Bengaluru in southern India had to use tractors to rescue residents of upmarket housing estates after torrential rain flooded several parts of that city. Environmentalists blamed poor town planning and climate change for the Bengaluru flooding.
Meanwhile, people in Pakistan are also feeling the devastating impacts of the flooding.
For the first time in weeks, 47-year-old farmer Mumtaz Ali and his family finally returned to what was left of their home on Thursday after they were forced to flee Pakistan’s deadly floods, which had left nearly 1,600 people dead.
Ali was unloading his belongings from a tractor as he spoke to Reuters and had to still wade through ankle-deep waters to his home at Taj Mohammad village in Dadu district of Sindh, the province hardest-hit by the disaster. The father of five said life at the relief camp was tough due to the traffic noises and a lack of proper toilet and bathing facilities.
