Heatwaves and wildfires engulf parts of US and western Europe

South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Heatwaves and wildfires engulf parts of US and western Europe” – below is their description.

Wildfires and historic heatwaves are bringing misery to Europe and large areas of the United States, where 100 million Americans faced heat warnings on July 20, 2022. US President Joe Biden said climate change is an emergency, but he stopped short of declaring a state of emergency. Biden did announce plans to fund cooling centres and he pushed for new offshore wind projects in the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico. In Europe, the United Nations warned that heatwaves were contributing to deadly wildfires in France, Greece, Portugal and Spain.
