The UK and US have agreed to amend the “anomaly” that allowed the alleged killer of Harry Dunn to claim diplomatic immunity, the Foreign Secretary has said.
Anne Sacoolas was able to leave the country by claiming diplomatic immunity following a crash that killed the 19-year-old motorcylist outside RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire in August 2019.
The 42-year-old, who is the wife of an intelligence officer at the US military base, is alleged to have been travelling on the wrong road at the time and has been charged by British prosecutors for causing death by dangerous driving.
Her departure led to a major row between the Foreign Office and Mr Dunn’s family, who launched legal action over the series of decisions that allowed her to slip out of Britain.
She will now not be returned to face justice in the UK unless the US agrees to extradite her – something it has so far refused to do.
