The move, which is an escalation which seemed to be coming, follows months of fairly strong media criticism of the pair. Prince Harry will likely feel very personally aggrieved over the behaviour of the tabloid press towards his wife Meghan, as his mother Princess Diana died in a car accident fleeing from reporters, in 1997, when he was a young boy.

The couple stepped away from all royal duties earlier this year, after announcing their intention to do so in Christmas period of 2019.
