Bloomberg QuickTake: Now published this video item, entitled “Harris Honors Black Women as the ‘Backbone of Our Democracy'” – below is their description.
US Vice President-elect Kamala Harris on Saturday paid tribute to Black women who “so often prove they are the backbone of our democracy”. Harris, the daughter of Jamaican and Indian immigrants, is the first woman to be elected to the vice presidency. In her speech in Wilmington, Harris noted her ascension to the role came 100 years after the 19th Amendment was ratified and 55 years after the signing of the Voting Rights Act, which expanded who could participate in American democracy. She went on to tell the American people that “no matter who you voted for, I will strive to be a vice president like Joe (Biden) was to President Obama”. She acknowledged that the road ahead would “not be easy”, but insisted that “America is ready and so are Joe and I.”Bloomberg QuickTake: Now YouTube Channel
