Hard to detect omicron offshoot BA.2 spreads rapidly in Europe | DW News

DW News published this video item, entitled “Hard to detect omicron offshoot BA.2 spreads rapidly in Europe | DW News” – below is their description.

Governments around the world are tracking the spread of what is considered to be an offshoot of the omicron variant.

Scientists have labelled it ‘BA.2’. It’s nicknamed ‘the stealth variant’ because it’s more difficult to detect. And it has become an increasingly dominant source of coronavirus infections in Denmark and India.

And New Zealand is upping its measures to combat COVID-19 after several confirmed cases of the Omicron variant. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says the nation is now under a “red” alert. Ardern has followed her government’s guidelines and has postponed her own wedding, which was scheduled for next weekend.
