Health Secretary Matt Hancock urged people not to attend anti-racism demonstrations, saying “it’s undoubtedly a risk” that they will contribute to the spread of coronavirus.
He called Boris Johnson’s cabinets “the most diverse” he has ever sat in, despite his inability to name a single current black cabinet member.
Speaking to Sophy Ridge, he said: “It’s diversity of thought that’s the really important thing when you’re taking those big decisions around the cabinet table.”
Responding to criticisms about the lack of action taken to address COVID-19’s disproportionate impact of BAME people, he said Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury Kemi Badenoch is leading an investigation to “get to the bottom of this”.
