Health Secretary Matt Hancock sat down in an exclusive interview with ITV News political correspondent Daniel Hewitt and said the government is working through the backlog in cancer care caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
When asked when the backlog will be cleared, Hancock says that it has been reduced by half since the peak of the pandemic, and hopes it will be cleared “within months”.
However, Hancock also stated that he “cannot guarantee” that people who need to get cancer treatment or a cancer operation over the winter months won’t have it cancelled.
It comes as millions of cancer patients are still waiting for tests or treatment, according to figures from Cancer Research.
