Gyms and parks reopened Monday in Sao Paulo, Brazil’s largest city, as part of the authorities’ plan to ease coronavirus restrictions and restart the economy.
After 111 days closed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, these businesses and open spaces can operate under specific rules.
The parks’ attendance is limited to 40 percent of their capacity, and are allowed to open only from Monday to Friday with a reduced schedule.
Gym operations are widely restricted, allowed to operate for 6 hours per day, with 30 percent of its normal capacity.
Showers and water dispensers are forbidden, and all customers and trainers must wear masks.
A CrossFit gym owner Valine de Rossi, said they had a difficult time during the pandemic, but she has faith in the future.
“I believe we will be able to recover what we lost, exactly because people can’t bear staying for four months inside their homes. And like it or not, physical activity is health. We need to exercise,” she said.
Clients like Gisele Mainardi said they were happy with the measures.
“Companies in general and gyms were not prepared to deal with the pandemic. Today, I think they organized themselves in a better way to receive everybody, to offer a class with quality but also ensuring everybody’s health,” Mainardi said.
