The Pakistan Stock Exchange has been ambushed by gunmen disguised as under-cover police, leading to a shootout in which at least seven people including security personnel were killed.
Four militants in a single vehicle pulled up outside the stock exchange in Karachi and threw a grenade at the gate. The attackers then began shooting indiscriminately, causing people to flee the scene. Around 150 people were trapped inside the building, locking themselves in their offices. Heavily armed security officers then arrived, leading to a firefight in which all four militants were shot dead. Police found assault rifles, hand grenades and other explosives at the scene.
Police earlier said that the attackers had killed four security officers, but later lowered the total to three.
A separatist group called the Baluchistan Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the attack.
