US gun sales hit historic highs ahead of the US presidential election on November 3, 2020, fuelled by fears of post-election protests. Gun shop owners say many are first-time buyers.
A study by US based research consultancy, Small Arms Analytics & Forecasting, showed that 1.8 million firearms were purchased in the US in September 2020, a 66 per cent increase compared to the same month last year.
Gun sales had already been surging in many US states amid concerns about social instability because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
