In breaking news – and the Socceroos are headed to the World Cup after a dramatic penalty shootout against Peru. Needing a win in their intercontinental playoff – the Aussies had the better of the chances, but couldn’t find the net in regular time.

Both teams again failed to score in extra time – the Peruvians coming agonisingly close to ending Australia’s dreams.

Graham Arnold replaced skipper Mat Ryan with penalty expert Andrew Redmayne for the shootout – and the Sydney FC shotstopper wrote himself into Australian football folklore. The Socceroos winning 5-4 on penalties booking their place in Qatar later this year. Former Socceroos captain Paul Wade joined SUnrise to discuss.
