As the Greenlandic ice sheet melts, huge deposits of rare earth elements are being uncovered.
These are vital in the production of low-carbon technologies – such as electric cars and wind turbines.
But some farmers – worried about radioactive dust and waste water – are trying to block mining projects.
Al Jazeera’s Nick Clark visited the town of Narsaq in southern Greenland – the site of one proposed mine.
