Al Jazeera English published this video item, entitled “Green energy: DR Congo push to improve cobalt miners’ safety” – below is their description.
The recently COP26 climate talks in Glasgow have given added urgency to the push for renewable sources, of which cobalt, used in electric car batteries, is highly in demand.
Much of it comes from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but mining there is dangerous and unregulated.
But the government is trying to raise standards in that sector.
Al Jazeera’s @Malcolm Webb reports from Kawama mine in Lualaba Province, DR Congo.
