A new temporary hospital will open at the ExCel centre from next week, Matt Hancock has announced. NHS Nightingale Hospital will comprise two wards and the ability to hold up to 4,000 patients.
The hospital, based at the ExCeL conference centre in East London, will initially provide up to 500 beds equipped with ventilators and oxygen. The capacity will then continue to increase, potentially up to several thousand beds, should it be required, NHS England has said.
