The calls to free Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig are rising, as they mark 1,000 days since being detained in China. Their arrest is largely seen as retaliation to Canada’s arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou. As Jeff Semple reports, many people believe a resolution to the Meng case is the only way to bring home the two Michaels.

To the Canadian federal election, amid allegations of inappropriate behaviour, Raj Saini has dropped out of the election campaign. He was the Liberal candidate in the Ontario riding of Kitchener Centre. As Mercedes Stephenson explains, Saini’s exit is the news the party doesn’t want right now, especially with two weeks left in the race.

While campaigning in British Columbia, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole was still being dogged by questions about gun control, after he vowed not to repeal Canada’s current assault rifle ban if elected, despite his party’s platform saying the opposite.
