Global News published this video item, entitled “Global National: Sept. 26, 2022 | Port aux Basques residents pick up the pieces after storm Fiona” – below is their description.

After post-tropical storm Fiona devastated Channel-Port aux Basques, N.L., people are now evaluating the extent of the destruction. Ross Lord hears from shocked residents about how they’re coping, and reports on the aid that’s on the way. Mike Drolet also speaks with residents on the terror they survived, and hears how one man fought for his life. And thousands of residents and businesses in Nova Scotia have been also left powerless after the storm. As Shallima Maharaj reports from Glace Bay, crews are working around the clock to restore electricity.

The federal government has officially announced it will drop masking rules and COVID-19 vaccine requirements for travellers, including the mandatory use of the ArriveCAN app, starting October 1. David Akin explains what medical experts say about the risk of catching COVID-19 while on an airplane.

Plus, Giorgia Meloni has won Italy’s election, meaning she will become Italy’s first female prime minister. While promising to govern for all, her far-right views on immigration, abortion, and 2SLGBTQIA+ rights have generated controversy. As Redmond Shannon explains, Meloni may have to moderate her hardline stances.

And although Fiona tore through Cape Breton, N.S., causing a trail of destruction and leaving most of the island without power, that didn’t stop one couple from tying the knot in a wedding to remember. Global’s Chief Meteorologist Anthony Farnell reports.
