Meanwhile, newly obtained emails from Toronto Public health suggest the Tendercare long-term care home, which had the deadliest COVID-19 outbreak in Ontario, ignored advice that could have helped save lives. More than 300 staff and residents tested positive for COVID-19 and 81 residents died. Carolyn Jarvis has details of the advice that was not followed.

The Tokyo Olympics officially kick off on Friday, but few in Japan are celebrating. COVID-19 concerns continue to rise and, as Mike Armstrong reports, even Olympic officials also won’t rule out the possibility that events could be cancelled at the last minute.

Plus, in an exclusive interview with Global News’ Farah Nasser, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau discussed some of Canada’s pressing issues including a possible election, Islamophobia in Canada and the discovery of unmarked graves at former residential school sites.

And Amazon founder Jeff Bezos became the latest billionaire to reach the edge of space, travelling with three others in a rocket built by his company Blue Origin. But as Jackson Proskow reports, there are plenty of questions on whether the money could be better spent here on earth.

Its advanced economy is the tenth-largest in the world, relying chiefly upon its abundant natural resources and well-developed international trade networks.
