South China Morning Post published this video item, entitled “Giant rats wearing hi-tech backpacks trained for disaster rescue” – below is their description.
These African giant pouched rats are trained for search and rescue at Apopo, a Belgian non-profit centre, in Morogoro, Tanzania. The rats wear hi-tech backpacks equipped with a location device, video camera and two-way radio for communicating with potential disaster victims. The rodents can also use a switch to let human rescuers know when a victim has been found.
