Starbucks says it’s going to reopen 85% of its company-operated U.S. stores by the end of this week. But it’s not all back-to-normal.
The company is going to limit stores to Entry-way and Mobile Pick Up orders only, as well as drive-thru in locations that have one. That means no seats in cafes and most pickup orders have to be made through the Starbucks app in advance. We wanted to try the system out.
Drive-thru has been a popular option during the Covid-19 lockdown. Starbucks says around 60% of the stores it operates are equipped with a drive-thru facility.
The company is also planning to introduce curbside pick up later in the summer. Some stores will eventually allow customers to order and pay inside the store at the counter if social distancing is possible. The company says there will be no seating in stores until its safe and permitted by authorities. Starbucks hopes 90% of its stores will be reopened in some limited form by the beginning of June. So for now it’s really about mobile pickup and drive-thru.
