A German official has accused Washington of “modern-day piracy,” after 200,000 masks bound for Germany were confiscated by the U.S. at a Bangkok airport. Berlin’s state minister of the interior, Andreas Geisel, said in a statement on Friday that the highly sought-after masks were made by an American firm in China and destined for use by Berlin police. The statement said it’s assumed to be in connection with the U.S. export ban on masks.
