George Pell freed from prison after High Court overturns child sex abuse convictions | ABC News

Cardinal George Pell has been released from prison after the country’s highest court quashed his child sexual abuse convictions. Pell, 78, Australia’s most senior Catholic, was found guilty in 2018 of sexually abusing two choir boys in the 1990s. His lawyers launched a High Court challenge after an unsuccessful bid in Victoria’s Court of Appeal. Today the High Court handed down its decision — granting Pell’s application for special leave and acquitting him.
