George Floyd’s brother, Philonise Floyd, and his sister, Bridgett Floyd, addressed protesters at the Lincoln Memorial on Friday as they gathered for the March on Washington, which commemorates the original 1963 march led by Martin Luther King Jr.
In an emotional speech, Philonise Floyd said he wished his brother were there to see the crowd who had gathered to call for an end to police brutality. “Change is happening right now,” he said, adding, “We demand it.”
Floyd’s sister recalled Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech calling for racial equality, and told the crowd that “we have the power to make it happen.” She said Americans have to work toward that dream together.
