George Floyd’s brother has called for calm in the wake of widespread unrest after his sibling’s death. Terrence Floyd pleaded with a crowd in Minneapolis, urging them to “do this peacefully.”
“Do this peacefully, please,” he begged the crowd while wearing a coronavirus mask with George’s image on it.
Chants of “What’s his name?” “George Floyd” filled the air Monday as a large crowd gathered at the spot in Minneapolis where the man who has become a symbol in the unrest across the U.S. took his last breaths.
George Floyd, who was black, died May 25 in Minneapolis after a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, pressed his knee into Floyd’s neck for several minutes even after he stopped moving and pleading for air. Chauvin has been charged with murder.
