A Celebration of Life event will be held in Minneapolis at The Commons to commemorate the one-year anniversary of George Floyd’s death and the street corner where Floyd was killed.
The event at the Commons is organized by the George Floyd Memorial Foundation.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey will join Bridgett Floyd and other members of George Floyd’s family for a 9:29 moment of silence.
Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man died after former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin held his knee on Floyd’s neck as he pleaded for air.
Floyd’s death sparked worldwide protests against anti-Black racism and calls for police reform in the U.S.
Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter in his death.
