Tragedy struck Oklahoma city on April 19, 1995 when a truck bomb exploded outside of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building. The explosion tore the building apart, leaving 168 people dead and hundreds more injured. Timothy McVeigh was arrested in the hours following the bombing, was convicted and sentenced to death. He was executed by lethal injection on June 11, 2001. Terry Nichols was also convicted and sentenced to 161 consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole.
