FRANCE 24 English published this video item, entitled “France in bid to relocate soybean crops to fight deforestation • FRANCE 24 English” – below is their description.
Whether it’s in the Amazon rainforest, DR Congo or Asia, trees are being cut down in order to make room for cattle but more often to plant soybeans, which are essential to feeding livestock. France imports about 3.5 million tons of soy each year, mainly from Brazil. To fight against this “imported deforestation”, the French government wants to relocate the cultivation of oilseeds and legumes to France, with the aim of doubling the number of hectares devoted to these crops by 2030.
