Foreigners in Bali find themselves in hot water over offensive social media posts | The World

ABC News (Australia) published this video item, entitled “Foreigners in Bali find themselves in hot water over offensive social media posts | The World” – below is their description.

Bali is known for its scenic landscapes and picture-perfect temples, but locally it’s known as the island of the gods. So with tourists and social media influencers returning to the Indonesian island, the two worlds are once again colliding. A Russian couple will be deported and banned from entering Indonesia for six months after posing naked next to a centuries-old sacred tree – an example of the transgressions by international visitors. Indigenous religion researcher at Denpasar’s State Hindu University, Ravinjay Kuckreja, tells The World what makes the sites so sacred to Balinese people.
