The administration of US President Donald Trump is extending sanctions relief for Iran that was granted under Tehran’s 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
The move comes despite Trump’s election campaign vowing to “rip up” the agreement with Tehran if elected. Yet, the US government has imposed new economic penalties over Iranian ballistic activity.
Meanwhile, campaigning has ended for Iran’s presidential election on Friday. It is the first major vote since the government signed a nuclear deal with Western powers.
Al Jazeera’s Jonah Hull reports from Tehran on the key role that foreign policy plays in the election.
